Kickstart the Week - 5/28

Well first off, Happy Memorial day to everyone in the U.S.A! Thanks to the Veterans for fighting for our freedom, one of the reasons we're allowed to participate in things such as Kickstarter. Speaking of Kickstarter, lets get to the top 3 projects of the week!

Tiny, simple, works on everything. When you can say your device does that i'm pretty sure you've got a winner. The Vavo does just that and appears to make a fantastic stand for any of your mobile devices. My only complaint would be loosing that tiny little cover for the sticky stuff. ;) Be sure to check out the campaign video for a fully demo. Vavo - http://kck.st/JZGAln

I love Toasters. I love iPhones. I love this device. This not so typical iPhone dock is my personal favorite for the week, It's just a little pricy...  Day Maker - http://kck.st/K78kmh

Knowing how to play Guitar can be the key to a girls heart, if you have the voice to go along with it. Some of us however are a little less gifted when it comes to string instruments, so a small little startup called Incident created the gTar. From what I've seen, this has to be second, only to private lessons for learning how to play one of the worlds most popular instruments. gTar - http://kck.st/Ksqi2i (Congrats on meeting your goal!)

Kickstart the Week - 5/21

Ahh, another has pasted and Kickstarter is flooded with a ton of new projects! Let's get to it.

If you own an iPhone, you should probably take a look at this. Remeber those nights when you used to feel around for the port on your iPhone? Those days are over. CordLite - http://kck.st/LjttAq

The iPhone has replaced most of our handheld cameras and it's about to change the way mobile scanning happens too. This nifty little fold up box has a nice layout to show you where to put your phone on top to get the perfect scan. Tucked up underneath the lid is a row of LED lights to make sure your scan is lit and lookin' good. Snazzy no? Be sure to checkout the video to see just how portable this thing is! ScanBox - http://kck.st/IBtnP7

I decided to save my personal favorite for last this week, the CloudPic. Bluetooth 4.0 is a massive improvement for the spectrum and has opened the door for a lot of new products much like the CloudPic. If you've got an iPhone and a DSLR your photos can be online minutes after taking them! Or even better, they can be syncing with dropbox so that by the time you get home they're in your studio and ready to edit. Bang. Check out the video for a sweet demo. CloudPic - http://kck.st/JaRk1E

Update: I didn't realize how much I mentioned the iPhone in this post until after I posted it.. I guess I use mine a lot. :)

Kickstart the Week - 5/14

What a crazy Monday it has been, so crazy in fact I almost forgot to post this! Enjoy my top 3 projects for the week below!

First up is a oddly spelled but incredibly useful product, W1PPS! PC docks have been around for ages but no one has ever made one for Mac (not that I've seen). Simple adapter turns your office desk into a cable free wonderland. The rest of the clutter though is up to you! Be sure to check out the mildly funny campaign video. W1PPS - http://kck.st/K6VJPF

A godsend for coders. Studying Computer Science at college is always a quest for documentation and learning what my code is actually doing. Light Table is a real time way to view code in an interactive way with full documentation and you can see where your code flows too with real time modifications. Will I be buying this in May 2013 when it's released? More than likely.  Light Table - http://kck.st/J6mgBL

While their campaign video isn't nearly as exciting as W1PPS, the product is actually quite promising. Granted, most tech savvy people know who to do their own P2P to accomplish the task above, these two guys aim to put simple (large) transfers into an app. I'd recommend checking out their Kickstarter page for a little better explanation than just the video. WireOver - http://kck.st/ITwG8f

Kickstart the Week - 5/7

Ahhh! So I missed last week, it may have been the lack of projects or my lack of time to find them but no worries, I'm back this week but sadly with only two awesome projects.

First up is the VIM cheat sheet! If you do any sort of programing or command line work often times when you have to deal with vim, it's a pain in the ass. The commands are screwy and incredibly hard to remember. With this cheat sheet you've got all the important commands, right on the wall of you man cave, simple as that. Beautiful Vim Cheat-Sheet Poster - http://kck.st/JJJYlO

This next project is especially interesting and takes the power of bluetooth 4.0 into the world around you. Using a small little beacon, location based events and information can be transmitted to devices based on predefined settings. What I really like about this device though is how it can be used with some proper APIs. For me I can see this being a real world ifttt. With an adjustable range I can see the tōd being used to automatically shut a garage door when you pull in or even turn on your computer as you're driving up the drive way. The possibilties are quite extensive and i'd love to write a little code for this thing! tōd - http://kck.st/KgudjJ

That's it for this week, hopefully next week we'll be able to fill all 3 spots!

Kickstart the Week - 4/23

I'm not a huge fan of watches, besides a phase I had like 11 years ago I never wear one. If I had to choose between a Rolex or the pebble, it'd be a tough choice. Status vs Functionality. And when I say functionality, I mean, this watch can display just about anything you could ever think of on your wrist. Recently, this project has been blowing up on kickstarter and at the time of this post had over $6 million pledged dollars going for it. That's some crazy cash. Running for $115 during the preorder this isn't all that expensive and I'm really impressed with it. Also, being a computer science major, that fact that it has it's own SDK is very enticing. Check out the video for a full visual. Pebble - http://kck.st/HumIV5

When you're out riding or in a rush the last thing you want to do is check to make sure you turned on your bike lights. The Blink Steady is truely the best set and forget bike light I have ever seen. This theft proof bike light is super easy to use, put in some batteries, flip it to either the blink or steady side and screw it on! The light will detect when you are moving and turn itself on. The light also has an auto shutoff when you stop moving for a long period of time to avoid wasting battery. In the video the light doesn't look all that bright but I think in person it will be much more noticalbe.  Blink / Steady - http://kck.st/HA7n5S

Ever want to make your black coffee a little different? Try something a barista makes on the daily? This snazzy little poster inspired by how people connect over coffee will show you some of the most popular drinks that are easy to make. 13x19 It'll fit just about anywhere. Check it out!
